Lucy Wu

Introducing Yushan Wu (Lucy) @lucy_wuart Yushan’s practice, encompassing installation, kinetic sculpture, performance, and film, explores the intersections of knowledge, archives, institutional structures, and discourse. She examines how norms and discipline are subtly embedded within systems and language, shaping individual identities and collective perceptions. By exploring continuously operating machinery, her works become ever-evolving entities. Transformation is a fundamental aspect of her practice, shaping both its physical form and conceptual framework. These works act as artifacts of preordained structures, illustrating how institutional and authoritative narratives influence our identities and realities. Her practice also engages with archives and cultural memory, questioning how selective remembrance contributes to utopian or dystopian imaginaries. Her recent work explores whether restricting perspectives even when not absolute, still leads to a loss of heterogeneity. In the pursuit of an “ideal state” built on unity, diversity is often replaced by homogeneity. By deconstructing the idea of rights, her work critically engages with collective discourse and challenges the authoritative language constructed by institutions.
