Today marks one year since being victim to a hit and run car incident. 6 hours of surgery, weeks in hospital and months in bed.
Thereâs a two week period of the incident happening and the time I spent in the emergency ward at Kings hospital that I donât remember. It was only after being discharged home when the amnesia wore off that I started to question having two black eyes.
It was pretty scary. I wouldnât sugar-coat that. Your mind asks itself countless questions when you think it was something you couldâve caused. My family hadnât been told anything about how it had actually happened.
Then I made a deal with myself at this point to not let it overcome me. Focus on what I can control which was my approach to recovery.
After a few months recovering at home I moved to Hackney. I signed up to do a half marathon proving to myself I could still do things. I met Katya from Tea Break who wanted to help get my artwork out there. Less than a year after injury and I was playing music at a club with my art projected and on its walls. That club was a stones throw away from where the incident happened.
At my last check in with my surgeon at Kings he shook my hand and said itâs not often he gets to say this; Assessing me, he thinks Iâve made a very good recovery to the point that he doesnât feel I need to come in again. I walked out of the hospital with a smile on my face.
None of how well my recovery has gone wouldâve happened without my family and my friends.
I love you. Onwards and upwards.
