They explore beauty, damage, connection. We are closer to the tipping point than we think. What do you think our responsibility to the oceans is? The Green Knot....98cm x98cm mixed media, recycled textiles and real marine detritus! We are speeding towards a point of no return, or are we? Scientists can't agree on just how damaging the sheer volume of marine pollution there is out there, and exactly what it's doing to our marine ecosystems. I hope this piece encourages conversation, debate...highlights the fragility of our Blue Planet. #NPAVOTE2026

Hi. I'm Lucinda Butto, a fibre environmental artist. The materials I use are really important to me.They're all reclaimed, reused, found, gifted fabrics. Having done a degree at glasgow school of art, many years ago, in Embroidered and Woven Textiles.I'm continuing my interest in dying and manipulating fabrics with use of shibori techniques and then very simple handsitch or couching. I like to use marine plastics as a means of expression. Not only for their linear qualities, but also to connect with the issues that are at the root of my work. WHAT WE DO WITH UNWANTED MATERIALS HOW THEY'RE VIEWED.THIS IS MY STARTING POINT. Creating layered, deep pieces that invite reflection is at the centre of my practice. My work is very much a celebration of the sea. It's fantastic, constantly changing colours and the feelings you get from being around it., a kind of serenity. Do you care about materials? The sea? Do you think about how we connected and how interconnected we are? 💙👍💬 #lucindabuttontextiles #fibreartist #blueplanet #artcollector #ecoart

'Deeper' was born in a woodland experience and now lives in a private collection in Lisbon - a real honour. I'm quietly hopeful that the works message continues to resonate: a response to landscape, sounds, and place, rooted in a very British environment yet connected across continents. What's moved me most, and made me really, I guess excited is the unexpected connection to another of the collector's homes in Chile. Without prior conversation the colours, sounds and environmental concerns within the piece seemed to speak for themselves - A reminder that nature, memory and our relationship with the world can transcend geography. my practice is driven by this connection: to translate experience into Fibre Art or paintings, to create what holds both beauty and a message. #lucindabuttontextiles #textileartist #ecoart #privatecollector #abstractart

Threads and absolute must see, and only on now until the 16th May. Deriving from the Germanic word: thread means twist and there are certainly many twists to this exhibition from grids to knots... dense sculptural networks of fibers, delicate, nuanced, conceptual raffia ...it's a feast but not only the eyes but the senses. I was particularly interested in the work of Joana Schneider. Her use of marine debris was an obvious link but it was how she began to see that the materials the Marine detritus took on a life of its own, it becomes its own medium...I like to draw with it. I am process and materials led. It's where I'm able to be playful, discovering what these discarded materials can do, can tell us about the world we live in. #lucindabuttontextiles #textileartist #artcollector #contemportarytextiles #materials

Using a combination of denim and my shiborbi dyed fabrics, this small circle will go into a much bigger piece of fun, design...dress making! The Oceans touch every part of our lives,it sustains us, inspires us,and connects us. I'm really proud to be part of the Ripple Effect - a creative community fashion project that celebrates the beauty of our oceans, whilst raising awareness of why they must be protected. inspired by David Attenborough's ocean work and of course to celebrate his 100th birthday this dress was revealed to coincide with his birthday celebrations. #therippleeffect #lucindabuttontextiles #blueplanet #attenborough #saveouroceans

Not Cuckmere Haven today - just distracting myself from caterpillars by making this post. We managed to go to Cuckmere Haven the weekend Warm Norm aka the greensockmovement or Bhass_ explore wasn't there! He was at Beachy Head. It's a long way for me, otherwise I'd go more often. I'm also needing some more marine plastics- I use them the way you might use a 3D pen, drawing with what's already there. Reuse, Reuse, Reuse it is one of my maxims. If anyone has any marine plastics to spare... please DM me. #lucindabuttontextiles #uselessplastic #marineplastics #fibreartist #bhass_explore

This time last week! An Enwild Retreat is so much more than just a retreat ...it offers nature and wellness through a range of activities for both the body and the mind. With a combination of scheduled classes optional activities and free time. I get inspired, learning about our native plants, understanding how interconnected we are...just a wonderful experience. #lucindabuttontextiles #textileartist #enwildretreat #oneplanet #ecoart

Such a great experience, wonderful people, beautiful setting...what's not to like! Working with 2, 3 and 4 years olds certainly tested my teaching skills! Love that my textile doodles have added depth and detail to their energetic pieces. Tied together with marine plastics helping to bring that conversation to the table. Tryptic of the Sea is on the top floor with the bar and a great roof terrace! As I say...what's not to like. WRAP is a fantastic space, designed to be a place where all the family can Work, Rest and Play. Less than a minute's walk from Brighton station this hybrid space allows the grown ups a beautiful space to work in, with meeting rooms, event space, co-working and desks, charities and rap is the only co-working space in Brighton that offers two free trial days go to their website book check it out. Open last weekend 2-3 May... but always available to request 2 trail days, an opportunity to go and see the space and the facilities. Thank you Anja Poehlmann for the great photos... #lucindabuttontextiles #wrap_space #sussexbayuk #brighton #saveouroceans
