Dances & Rhythms of Africa Workshop Series 🪘🎶 West African dance asks us to be present, to respond, and to hold more than one rhythm at a time. In that process, something shifts, individually and collectively. 🤲🏾 The foundation is grounding, listening, and moving in relationship to the drum and each other. 🙏🏽 Grateful to everyone who stepped into the space from our first class. What is polyrhythm? Polyrhythm = multiple rhythms happening at the same time. In West African dance, rhythm is layered. The drums carry multiple patterns at once, and the body responds in more than one place at a time. Feet, shoulders, torso, and breath can each hold its own conversation with the music. Polyrhythm invites you to listen differently. Over five weeks, we build this awareness progressively, supported by 🪘 live percussion and adapted variations for different movement levels. #YENSAfestival #AFRICAvibes #luashayennedancecompany #luashayenne #dance
