“My resistance lives in how I tell stories — and in allowing people to speak their truth,” Stowell says. “I don’t sand down the edges. Resistance is someone saying, ‘No one’s ever asked me that before.’ It’s in truly listening, and being willing to honor the full breadth of someone’s experience.” 🖤🌱
And when it comes to centering joy in a beautiful resistance, Stowell centered connectivity.
“Connection is essential and it gives beautiful meaning to our lives,” she says. “It’s when someone tells me that a moment in one of my films made them feel something, made them reflect or experience a connection or emotion they didn’t expect. When someone sees themselves in someone else’s story and feels inspired by it. Joy lives in those moments.”
