Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us that workers are more than productivity, deadlines, and long shifts. Workers are human too. Long hours, burnout, financial stress, and balancing school, work, and personal responsibilities can take a serious toll on mental health. Mental health is not just a personal issue, it’s a labor issue. As students and workers, we can help create spaces that normalize conversations around mental health, support one another, and advocate for healthier workplaces.

Showing up for workers as students is part of the labor of love rooted in community. Join us for part one of a dialogue between Karla, our Labor Studies Student Union Chair, and Jayha Buhs Jackson, Gen Rep 2. Together, we explore why it matters to show up in spaces led by workers and learn directly from leaders within the labor movement. We thank every student who supported our efforts before, during, and after the push for inclusion. As a student union, we believe it is our responsibility to bring more people to the picket line and use what we learn through the Labor Studies Department to build political education, strengthen solidarity, and inspire youth organizing. Stay tuned for part 2🩵💛🙌🏻

In celebration the @afscme_3299 win, we wanted to share some visuals of UNION POWER, seen at May Day!✊🏽 In solidarity, we continue to gain better conditions for laborers, families, and our communities overall. We are pleased to have seen such unity and collaboration at this year’s May Day rally!

With election season approaching, it is increasingly important that we recognize our privilege as students. We must be grounded in the idea that we are the future, the voices for those before and after us, the power! Here is an insight into one of our fellow Bruins, who is an intern for Assemblywoman Fatima Iqbal-Zubair. We had the opportunity to gain some insight from Sarah on what it takes to be an intern, and to hear some inspirational words we can take on our paths in advocacy! If you are looking to be more involved in student advocacy, follow @lssuucla for more opportunites and resources to get involved!

Are you confused with all the labor terms floating around? Never heard em before or need a refresher? Good thing Jacks gotcha! On May 14th AFCSME, the largest union in the UC representing ~40k workers, will be going on an OPEN ENDED STRIKE, meaning they won’t stop until the UC meets their demands.

Today! Join us this today, May 13, from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM!! We invite you to support our Pan Dulce fundraiser on Bruinwalk for families harmed by ICE’s inhumane workplace raids. We are over 60% close to our goal! Your contribution will provide direct mutual aid to about 30 families across LA County, through the Car Wash Worker Center @carwasherxs As we continue to witness racial profiling, family separation, and the criminalization of simply existing. We have a responsibility to respond with care, solidarity, and a humanitarian commitment to one another. All funds will go directly to impacted families, helping prevent evictions, hunger, and financial hardship during a time of deep emotional strain. If you’d like to stay involved in efforts like this, join our GroupMe: /join_group/94058924/4VJNbUdx

On May 14th AFCSME, the largest union in the UC representing ~40k workers, will be going on an OPEN ENDED STRIKE, meaning they won’t stop until the UC meets their demands! UC’s greed has gone too far, and now it’s time for us to show up on the picket line in solidarity with the workers who make UCLA the amazing campus it is!

Amazon needs to provide safer practices for its drivers. While efficiency and fast delivery are awesome, so is taking care of the employees. USPS is still delivering packages efficiently while keeping its employees safe. Let’s see what we can do to help Amazon drivers get those same safe workplace policies enforced! 🚚📦 Take a look at what the Amazon Teamsters have already accomplished so far and the fight they continue to have! /divisions/amazon-division/
