If you’re new here… Welcome to the LSDA! A bit about us:
The London School of Dramatic Art was established in 2005 to provide a comprehensive and professionally relevant vocational acting training to adults that was both accessible and centred around the individuality of the students attending.
Who are we?
LSDA teaching staff are all working professionals in the performing arts industry. This fact ensures a relevant preparation for aspiring actors, as we have a clear focus on current industry requirements and practices at the heart of our training experience. Our graduates go on to be successful in gaining representation by reputable agents and obtaining professional acting work across all performance mediums; stage, TV, film, and voiceover work.
What do we teach?
Our style of teaching is not to impose specific acting methodologies, but to provide the tools to enable students to become imaginative creative professionals. We foster the individual talents that live within in our students, encouraging them to take responsibility for creating specific character choices both in their training and throughout their acting careers. The LSDA aims to assist every individual student in reaching their full potential, and therefore we are with them every step of the way as they refine their craft.
What are LSDA classes like?
The class sizes at LSDA are small, as we only admit a limited number of students each year. This is in order to cultivate a close-knit learning environment which in turn gives us an understanding of every student’s individuality. We believe this sets the right scene for growth and development for an actor. We set students up for a versatile performance career, covering a diverse curriculum with many of opportunities to perform.

Today’s LSDA Graduate Spotlight is on Helen Murray!
@helenmurraypix
Helen is a professional photographer from Derry, Northern Ireland, now based in London. She mostly shoots theatre, portraits, and editorial work and is one of the most used theatre production photographers in London.
She originally trained as an actor at LSDA, graduating in 2008, but after some time she picked up a camera after realising she “preferred observing the chaos rather than being a part of it”.
Since then she has shot for over 300 productions at venues such as the National Theatre, Royal Court, Young Vic, Donmar, Barbican, Shakespeare’s Globe and RSC. A few of the many notable productions Helen captured were Prima Facie at the Harold Pinter (London) and John Golden (New York), We Black Woman, Donmar Warehouse, Long Days Journey Into Night, Wyndham’s Theatre with Brian Cox and the Lehman Trilogy revival at the Gillian Lynne.
Helen also has a production company The Question is Productions which shines a light on Irish culture and identity. Their debut short “The Derry Feis” currently in pre-production, anyone wishing to donate to their crowd funder you can do so on her website.
On top of all this, she is the chosen winner in the Photography 41 Awards 2025 and Best Production Photography of the Theatre and Technology Awards in 2017.
