Lines of Resistance: Water and Caste in the Subcontinent
This work emerges from an extended engagement with the material, emotional, and historical layers of the water crisis across marginalized communities. Through stitching, drawing, layering, and textile-based documentation, I explored the lived realities of those who carry water not only on their bodies, but through generations of inequality.
For centuries, Dalit and Adivasi women have faced exclusion, violence, humiliation, and daily harassment simply for collecting water—a basic human right turned into a site of control and oppression. This research-led process deepened my understanding of the socio-economic disparities that continue to shape access to water.
This piece stands as both a testimony and a tribute—to resilience, labour, dignity, and resistance.
Grateful and deeply honoured that this work is now part of the @lpoddar Ms. Lekha Poddar Museum Collection. 💧#LinesOfResistance#TheWeightOfWater
