This Baroque-style song cycle for soprano and ensemble comes from my lifelong love of 17th-century English music and my passion for the Elizabethan and Jacobean masters. The album features texts by Shakespeare, John Donne, Ben Jonson, John Lyly, and Sir Philip Sidney, some of which have been set to music for the very first time.

“Was bleibt, wenn die Musik fast verloren ist?”
In diesem Video spricht Jörg Halubek über die Ursprünge der Oper und unser Projekt La Dafne – eine Annäherung an eine der ersten Opern der Musikgeschichte. Aus wenigen überlieferten Fragmenten von Jacopo Peri entsteht ein faszinierender Blick zurück zu den Anfängen des Musiktheaters: schlicht, direkt und inspiriert von der griechischen Tragödie.
Im Kontrast dazu erklingt Marco da Gaglianos La Dafne – ein Werk, das bereits den Weg zur späteren Oper weist. So entsteht ein musikalischer Dialog zwischen Fragment, Rekonstruktion und Weiterentwicklung.

🔊 WITCHES’ SONG - For Ben Jonson’s incandescent poem "Witches’ dance", a vigorous and threatening passacaglia theme came quickly to mind. The hypnotic, obsessive drive of this dance form seemed the ideal way to portray a ceremony of dark, mysterious forces locked into ever-intensifying wildness.
