Spent the last two weekends with
@themenzingers celebrating 10 years of Rented World, and got me doing a lot of reminiscing on this past decade.
I remember the day that album came out, I didn’t know them at all, I was just a fan, who lived in a trailer park and worked a construction job. I’d toured for 10 years prior to that, but never made a penny from it and had to take whatever jobs I could to support myself and my music habit.
Fast forward a couple years, I’d taken up driving bands for a living when I got an offer to go out on the road with The Menzingers on a coheadlining tour with MeWithoutYou. I was devastated because I was already booked at the time, and I had made it a rule to not go back on commitments. I stewed on it for a few days and my gut told me to make an exception to the rule and take this job.
It turned out to be a life changing six weeks, at the very end of the Rented World touring cycle. I had made some of my best friends in the world and set up a long standing and ongoing working relationship that had led me to some of the greatest moments of my life. They’ve opened countless doors for me, and given their trust to allow to me grow and explore options in ways I didn’t think were possible.
I’ve gotten to be a driver, backline tech, stage manager, LD, photographer, video director, and who knows what else with them. I’ve been on 19 tours spanning 48 states and a dozen countries. Many miles and laughs and birthdays and weddings with this band and crew, and hopefully many many more to come.
Long story well, still pretty long, I love this group of people, and I’m endlessly thankful.
Anyway, if you’re still reading, enjoy these photos of London I took over the weekend
