🌔 We are over the moon to have this dream team leading the charge of Sally Ride, a new opera about queer love and the first American woman in space! 🎶 Directing Sally Ride as their 3rd production with Lowbrow Opera Collective, we have Eliza Woodyard @elkwood05 ! Sally Ride also happens to be their 3rd opera of Dana Kaufman's they've directed. 🚀 Did you know that Sally Ride, a new opera about queer love and the first American woman in space, wouldn't exist without Tam O'Shaughnessy's help? Composer Dana Kaufman and librettist Aiden K. Feltkamp have worked closely with Tam, Sally's life partner of 27 years, to bring you this beautiful work that details parts of Ride’s life that remained hidden until her death, while also celebrating her immense contributions to the field of physics, to the US space program, and to science education. Tam is an American children's science writer, professor of psychology, and former professional tennis player. She co-founded the science education organization Sally Ride Science and has dedicated much of her life to being an advocate for girls and women in the field of science. I am so honored to share that I will be playing Sally Ride's life partner, Dr. Tam O'Shaughnessy, in the new upcoming opera produced by @lowbrowoc Low Brow Opera Collective ❤️ By local Seattle composer Dana Kaufman and librettist Aiden Feltkamp, this opera follows the real-life story of the first American woman and the first LGBTQ+ person to go to space. Narrated by Dr. O’Shaughnessy, who consulted on the creation of this work, the opera illuminates parts of Ride’s life that remained hidden until her death, while celebrating her immense contributions to the field of aeronautics.
