Part 1 of a photo collection I did with @h4zeeel about her perspective as an Asian person navigating the city life in Melbourne and the people around it. Giving our fave simp king Wong Kar-Wai. We scoured the city looking for places that reminded us of the visual/fluorescent density of East Asia. Then, using them as a portal to transport us, for a moment, from the colony to the homeland.
It was freeing to shoot street again.

In vintage LOVE RAT! fashion, here are some photos of a motel I stopped over at on the drive to Sydney. This whole motel felt like one entity that was alive, taking big slow breaths. Resting, in the middle of nowhere.
I think people can be put off by motels because they’ve got massive backrooms vibes and also murder. But I found this one oddly comforting that’s maybe because I’m a cretin.

It was just one of those productions where all the pieces fit together so seamlessly from vision to execution 😩✊🏽 This video was made to tie together a live performance with the song’s inner world. Brought to life through an improvised dance by @issy_fox who I had the pleasure of dancing in tandem with (camera in hand).

In all seriousness, all I’ve ever wanted to do since I started filmmaking was to bask in sonic performances. I’ve met so many people in these spaces that will be a part of my creative journeys forever. There is nothing like moving with a performer and capturing the exact moment they let go. It’s magic.
