Trompe l’oeil back tattoo referenced from antique rosaries. Transparent lamb leather hand stitched top. Needle punched wool crucifix mega rosary with felted wool and black lava rock beads. Amsterdam-based designer Laura ter Veer presents LES FILLES DU BROUILLARD, a six-look conceptual runway collection developed at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute that cuts through romantic illusion to expose the structures beneath fashion’s spectacle. Drawing on figures from a 19th-century Parisian maison close, The Madame, Sinner in Silk, The Girl in the Gown and more, she channels themes of invisible labour, sacrifice, validation, and gatekeeping into silhouettes that fuse nineteenth-century dress with transparent leathers, burnt velvets, faded silks, and layered deconstruction. PROCESS LOOK 4 - THE MADAME Ceiling ornaments from ‘Le Carmen’ in Paris (early 20th century brothel) needle punched into the top and immortalized with a trompe l’oeil tattoo. Top consisting of multiple layers; an outer shell of Indian matka silk, followed by two layers of light- and dark gray silk organza on the protruding front and sleeve parts, fully lined with hand dyed cotton organdy. Silk velours skirt, degradé distressed to create an aged ‘silk devoré’, double lined with yellow and lilac silk organza. Dyed double layered cotton rib socks. My grandmother’s deteriorating beaded clutch turned into a glove.
