‘The Hyakkō: 100+ Makers from Japan’ exhibition at
@japanhouseldn is an immersive experience displaying diverse regional craftsmanship and presenting the ‘art in daily life’ approach.
Song : ‘Empty Bottle’ by
@yutaka_hirasaka from the album ‘Pathos’
This album, including only simple guitar songs, captures the ‘stagnant’ parts of the artist’s life - just like the objects that have been displayed in this exhibition that are no longer being used in the flow of daily life. Yutaka expresses who he is ‘”now”, here, not knowing even a little bit about the future’. Presence is essential for appreciating the beauty of everyday objects both within this exhibition and daily life.
I selected this mellow guitar song to create a different feeling whilst watching this video, as in the exhibition you can hear a delicate piano playlist. Music is another example of the ‘countless forms of making’ within Japanese craft.
I use video and editing to not just capture the experience I had, but provide a different experience to those watching - My digital works and personal experiences exist as separate memories evoking unique emotions.
‘No two works are the same, no two makers are the same.’ - Curator
@takahiro_nagata .
No two experiences are the same.
Featuring the Japanese craftsmen, this musician and my mother in this video was important for me - for art is baseless without people to connect with, create and experience it.
