"One day you will be called on to break a big law in the name of justice and rationality. Everything will depend on it. You have to be ready. How are you going to prepare for that day when it really matters? You have to stay “in shape” so that when the big day comes you will be ready. What you need is “anarchist calisthenics.” Every day or so break some trivial law that makes no sense, even if it’s only jaywalking. Use your own head to judge whether a law is just or reasonable. That way, you’ll keep trim; and when the big day comes, you’ll be ready." James C. Scott, Two cheers for Anarchism
🤖 Linggan Divinations (Weird Economies / Cosmo-Financial Study Group) brings together fresh perspectives on a topic that refuses to leave anyone alone right now — Artificial Intelligence.
This reading group explores a selection of texts from “Machine Decision is not Final” (Urbanomic), a collection on AI in China, in order to unpack tensions between Western and Chinese conceptions of this technology — from earlier cybernetic imaginaries to contemporary speculations and problematics. A space for collective sense-making, the programme offers a counterpoint to the current planetary-scale hype and reductive narratives surrounding AI.

💻 Lift & Drag: 'Exocapitalism' Reading Group
💫 What happens when financial abstractions achieve escape velocity from terrestrial constraints? When markets begin to orbit beyond the gravitational pull of human economies?
🎯 Join the reading group for a two-session exploration of "Exocapitalism: economies with absolutely no limits", by Marek Poliks & Roberto Alonso Trillo (Becoming Press, 2025), where they’ll trace the aerodynamics of capital as it encounters the twin forces of lift — the speculative ascent that carries financial flows beyond earthbound reference points — and drag — not so much resistance to lift but rather the symptoms of a system where humans perform increasingly hollow versions of classical economic relations.
1st session 📆 16 October: Lift (pp. 1-87) · 18:00–19:30 (UTC+1)
📍Well Read Bookstore, with online transmission

What happens when financial abstractions achieve escape velocity from terrestrial constraints? When markets begin to orbit beyond the gravitational pull of human economies?
Join us for a two-session exploration of Exocapitalism (Becoming Press, 2025), where we’ll trace the aerodynamics of capital as it encounters the twin forces of lift – the speculative ascent that carries financial flows beyond earthbound reference points – and drag – not so much resistance to lift but rather the symptoms of a system where humans perform increasingly hollow versions of classical economic relations.
The cosmofinancial framework developed by Poliks and Trillo shows how economic abstractions don’t simply extract value from terrestrial conditions but actively participate in worlding practices, generating, or folding, as the authors define it, new planes of speculation and relation. The book performs, in the words of Tiziana Terranova, a “cosmological, retroactive take on the continuity of capital as an inhuman algorithm modeled on finance and software”.

Other Internet are great at making sense of new online trends and behaviours. They’re especially tuned in to emerging models like Web3, and their work explores how digital systems shape us – and how we can shape them back.
To celebrate the launch of their new book - Other Internet 2018–2024, we hosted a collaborative workshop all about how our relationship with internet culture is changing.
Check out our latest SEED on Protein.XYZ for highlights from the session and a deeper dive into their ideas.
