@tobeyoxley ‘s #501 Chair Class is done and dusted. 6 #501 chairs headed to their new homes in Melbourne , Ballarat, Queensland, Kyneton, Harcourt and the Cook Islands! Huge thanks to Tobey for coming all this way from South Carolina, USA to share his chair design with us Australians and his knowledge too. This class also brings a fitting end to the Lost Trades Fair Classes for 2026. 150 + class positions in everything from Heddle carving & weaving, Iconography, Scissor making, Pigment making, Spoon carving, Wood turning and so much more. And it goes without saying ( but I’m saying it anyway ) all of it made possible by the incredible hard work of the extraordinary, Lisa @patronoftrades who brought them all together, whilst single handedly organising and running the Lost Trades Fair too. @losttrades Time to clean the workshop, then I think I might just go and have a little lie down- for a week. One of the best things about traveling is meeting people whom you have probably always been meant to meet. Such was my meeting world-famous, intensely curious, deep-thinking @kerstin.neumuller from Sweden 🇸🇪 at the Lost Trades Fair (@losttrades ) in Australia 🇦🇺 —- all the way on the other side of the planet from both of us! Kerstin combines woodworking with weaving, as she teaches the crafts of carving wooden heddles (portable looms) to do weaving in simple and advanced patterns. A staple of traditional clothing, supplies, and weaving across the world, portable weaving projects are easy to learn and fun to engage. (It was harder to get Kerstin to sit for a 2-minute hand-scissored silhouette than most people take to learn her weaving techniques!) . The Lost Trades Fair 2026 (@losttrades ) is behind us now, it’s workshops are wrapping up, but I’m just getting started on my social media. Why?: Because I’m not spending my valuable time in Australia on my phone, except to take pictures— to record the faces and places which make this event so unique. . “So…” you may ask, “… what’s so great about a crafts fair?” — This is when I’d gently sit you down to say, “Friend, this is no crafts fair. This is our souls, calling out for discovery. Discovery with our hands, our minds, our understanding of the environment around us, the trades which made us human; the carving, the weaving, the painting, the folding, the sewing, the boiling, the tapping, the turning, the shaving, the filing, the cutting… craftspeople who pull and tug and think and deliberate. Those who make things. Those who may have dirty hands but clean hearts. This isn’t a craft show. It’s life, in over 150 stalls and 420 hearts bringing these actions to you. Greeting you, demonstrating for you, demonstrating WITH you, driving or flying for miles and kilometers; bearing wind and rain and mud to bring you the greatest show in earth: your history. I am so lucky to be able to host makers like @grace_horne_designs at my workshop after the Lost Trades Fair. 24 students over 3 days left with a beautiful pair of scissors and a mind full of inspiration. An incredible year at the new location of Hanging Rock, in my opinion the best location yet 👏🏻 Huge thank you to everyone that came to support makers from across Australia and OS. @losttrades thank you for your tireless hard work 🙌🏻
