Veritas 006, one of the most elusive gems on the white whale list. I wouldn’t say I have been chasing this ghost tick so much as it has been passively eluding me for 13 years.
This was released once in April 2009, only to attendees of “The Sinners Barrel Club” and each person was allowed to buy 2 of the 500 total bottles. It fell into infamy since V005 was essentially non-existent and 20 gallons have faded into unreachable obscurity.
These were different times. The framework is an 8% flanders red meets Oud Bruin hybrid with raspberries that was the proto-Framboise de Amarosa. Those are very old fashioned words, it just needs a “Blockbuster Video” tossed in there.
To understand why this beer was so coveted you need to trace the Alexander > vin du Cereal > C&C La Folie > Falling Rock > Supplication bloodline. It exceeds the scope of a 330 word Instagram caption. Dudes areolas were full achy for nail polish remover during the GWB foreign wars.
So how has it held up 16 years later? Very good and acetic, depending on what you crave. It is a page directly from this era. The bracing tannic structure pumps your gumline like it is fresh out of jail. However, the malty oud bruin underpinnings lovingly interlace your fingers above your head and provide this malty depth that most AWA cannot provide. Sure there’s the old black cherry, currant, aquanet, model airplane glue; but also the gift of time provides marled yarn, wet particle board, Jansport leather bottoms.
Jansport leather bottom was my nickname in 7th grade PE.
The finish is long, brackish and intensely dry like British improv. No way that man is wearing a dress how ribald. So is it worth it? Go drive an Integra Type R now, it absolutely is not “worth it” in the strictest sense. But it validates a wanderlust to the past. A travel desire for times gone, that “fernweh” of warheads past.
