It’s Monday: lead with love 🤍
Two years ago today, I got baptized. Slide 3 for the dunk. This might be polarizing but I hope you can read on with an open mind.
I don’t share this often because I know everyone has their own beliefs: and I genuinely respect that. When I was a kid and told my mom I wanted to read the Bible, she told me I was a strange child & to study all religions before I made any decisions: so I did. I was raised to understand different perspectives and to love across all differences. That’s something I’ll always carry.
But when I walked into church after my Mum’s passing, something shifted for me. I felt safe. Held. Like a weight I didn’t even realize I was carrying just lifted. It wasn’t about having all the answers: it was about feeling connected to something deeper, and to love in a way that felt real.
I don’t believe in everything, all the time. But I do believe in love. I believe in showing up for people. I believe in holding space. I suppose this is my stance this week, to remind you to lead with love in all you do, especially your work. Because at the end of the day what is business but people dealing with other people. You’d be surprised how far compassion, empathy & caring can go in your business. And prayer too. My fave is “where would you have me go, what would you have me say, what would you have me do?”
There’s actually something really grounding about prayer and reflection: even beyond belief. More and more research shows it can calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and bring a sense of peace. Even people who don’t identify as religious, talk about the power of intention, of believing in something bigger than yourself, of letting go for a moment.
So whatever this means to you; whether it’s prayer, intention, or just a moment to breathe: I hope you find a little bit of peace in your day. If this makes even just one person feel less alone, lighter- then i’ve done my job.
And if you need someone in your corner, I’m here 🤍 ty to @c3toronto@life.church & @junes.musings for the space to learn & listen 🤍
makeover makeover, makeover makeover. Makeover!
(jk, didn't rebrand this year. Lo + behold: New work on the site 🔥 )
-----------------------------
The real lore, behind "Lo" was a gift from magic ♥ but today I realized that "Lo" is an old English exclamation meaning "look!" or "see!": which seems fitting for all that I do in my work. A shortening of "look" which seems to sum up those 00:30s things I spend my life on. Lo shows up throughout Old + Middle English literature, it's in the bible ("lo, a star in the east"), and while we no longer use it in modern language, we kept the phrase "lo and behold": which ChadGPT reminds me is kind of redundant since both words mean: "Look!"
So lo + behold = look! look! which I think is the most perfect way to describe the creation of advertising video content, broadcast social narrative, branded entertainment, things we make.
I think if we're going to create lore, that might be a kind of cool place to start, no? I dunno: We are on a spinning rock hurtling through space + none of this matters. So do good work, be a kind person + make things with 1000% gusto. Lo + behold: meaning makes it all better anyway.
The name Lo comes from a word that means pay attention, something worth seeing is here. So
The rest will speak for itself.
