Staff Spotlight: DJ Centeno (José De la Torre) - Heart, Rhythm, & Community 🧡
If you’ve danced Salsa or Bachata at Reverie on a Thursday or Saturday night, chances are you’ve already felt the energy of DJ Centeno - known to most of us as José. From the booth to the dance floor, José brings warmth, joy, and an unmistakable passion for Latin rhythms that makes everyone feel welcome.
Originally from Mexico, José grew up surrounded by the vibrant sounds of the 1990s. What started as childhood fun turned into a lifelong passion after his first salsa class in 2004. By 2011, he was training seriously, growing into both a dancer and teacher.
His favorite styles (Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, and Merengue) keep him deeply connected to his roots while giving him endless ways to express himself through music and movement. As a DJ, José doesn’t just play songs - he creates an atmosphere where dancers feel seen, supported, and excited to keep learning.
More than anything, José is a community builder. Whether he’s welcoming someone new, answering questions, or hyping up the room, he’s always finding ways to bring people together... on *and* off the dance floor.

Tomorrow night, April 11, step into the Grand Ballroom for an evening of Salsa with live music by Orquesta Nueva Era (and Bachata flowing in the Emerald).
Start with a beginner-friendly drop-in lesson from 8:30-9:30pm, then stay as the room fills with live sound, movement, and momentum.
Led by Grammy-nominated bandleader Steve Guasch, Orquesta Nueva Era brings a full, high-energy salsa experience: Five-piece horns, driving rhythms, and vocals that pull you straight onto the floor.
We’ll be dancing On1: Slot-style salsa with spins, turns, and energy that builds as the night goes on. Whether you’re brand new or have been dancing for years, this is a space to learn, connect, and lose yourself in the music.
Lesson: $10
Dance: $25 ($15 with student ID)
