In honor of Juneteenth Lift Black Voices recognizes the impact of Black Americans as the true patriots by celebrating history through community and action. This year we collaborated with Nigerian- American & Texas based multidisciplinary artist @temi.coker to create a dynamic animated header. In creating this activation it was important to represent the celebratory moment and honor the true meaning of Juneteenth. We created an immersive environment through various scenes that highlighted the breadth of the Black community. This was an opportunity to shine a light on less represented parts of Black culture and share in both the joy of this independence day, and acknowledge the plight to equality and justice that still remains. Temi’s inspiration behind this concept: “I wanted to show this feeling of African Americans doing things that bring joy. Juneteenth is a day of celebration and a day to remember our ancestors who sacrificed their time and their lives for the future we're living in today. When approached with this project I had this idea of showcasing Black joy and freedom in different ways. Whether it was through fishing, roller skating, dancing, a cookout, etc., the goal was for African Americans to see themselves in the work and feel joy. I also wanted this idea of it feeling like a museum of black joy and black freedom.” This was a tremendous team effort and I am continuously in aw that I get to collaborate with such inspiring creators. 🌎 I believe that children are the future teach them well & let them lead the way 🌎 I had high hopes of doing a roundup of all of 2021’s good times because even though everything was still on fire we found our way to joy again. But I settled on 1 roundup: THE KIDS. These kids are my pure joy - I’m obsessed with them and for the most part everything I do is with them in mind so they can live in a better world - they deserve the fucking best!! This time period has robbed us of so much but watching kids discover the world, discover themselves and make us laugh just by being kids doesn’t get better than that. I’ve hugged all these kids with everything I had this year and I don’t for a second take that for granted. Kids are pure heart. Thank you kids for showing me a goooood time this year. Thank you for being the light among the darkness. Lead the way ❤️

¡Aye Dios Mío! Coming in under the wire here for Latinx Hispanic Heritage Month! This past month was about honoring where you come from, honoring those deep parts of yourself that don’t fit into a box and proudly displaying who you are. It was such a tremendous blast to collaborate on this piece for #LHHM for @facebookapp with so many talented humans whose passion for bringing this work to life shone through every video call, email, concept, text message, layout, recuts, and more! @pedronekoi blew it out of the water with the visuals and @felix_silvestris brought in more magic with a hypnotic animation. I am indebted to you both! As a first generation Latin/Hispanic/South American woman this work was always going to be personal and I couldn’t be more proud of what we made. 💥 INSIDE FUN(K) - WEEK 52 💥 Wowwwww pandemic life 1 year in. It’s all wild & strange & I honestly don’t have actual words for the right now or for the last 12 months. More so than ever before I do feel light at the end of the tunnel tho. The darkness slowly getting brighter. I mean even today the actual days ARE brighter. WILD TIMES!!!! Through the shit storms and what the fucks we’ve kept on doing the things. Kept on showing up in whatever capacity we could on any given day. It’s been 52 weeks. 52 weeks of personal unraveling and marveling and sitting around a whole lotta sitting around.
