Aunt Barb lived happily offline her entire life though I don’t think she’d mind me posting this. She was the definition of a free spirit who loved nature, travel, photography, writing, roller skating, dogs, and her adoring husband Ron. When I was 5, she made me business cards that said “author” and always encouraged my artistic side. She had a papasan in her living room. She decorated her stove instead of using it. She only ever made strawberry shortcake. She’d drive across the country on a whim and show up unannounced and jump in the pool with her clothes on. One time she called me pretending to be a radio station giving out prizes and asked if I had a crazy Aunt Barbara and I said, “Yes, yes I do!” After her mother had a stroke, she got a handicap van so they could still go to lunch and the beach and Disneyland. She made me fall in love with California. So much of who I am is because of her. She loved her sister and brother and my brother so much and whistled songs for her nephew Jimmy every day. She was a teacher on Guam, a guidance counselor in Irvine, and a retiree off-grid in Colorado in a house that Ron built with his bare hands. She liked to howl at the moon and signed off every letter with an “oooOoooooOooo” that she’d address to Miss Wild America. Thank you for everything, Aunt Barbie Doll ♥️ Hope you jumped into that great big pool in the sky, flip flops and all. Love, Miss Wild America oooOoooooOooo!!!!!!
