"It's a symbol from a story I wrote when I was 15" – That has become sort of a catchphrase of mine the last 5 months. I got this tattoo in February, and it was honestly the best choice I've made. My story Luma has been such a huge part of my life for so long, and I love the characters and story dearly. I found some old arcs in a drawer the other day. A story of two kids crafting a well thought out plan to get ones evil (step)parents to divorce before their infighting killed them all. Another one showed a child bringing the stereo over to their mom crying at the kitchen table to play her favorite song, to maybe stop her from turning to drugs this time. The only difference between fantasy and reality was that fantasy always ended in success. It's a staple of all my writing, not just for the past 5 years, but ever since I first picked up the pencil at 4 to start learning to tell stories through art. I was obsessed with horror from the start, even at that age. Maybe it was easier to write about what you already knew. Luma is a silly, colorful story about a guy navigating a new world with his newfound friends whilst this other dude is out to kill them, all for a crystal they never really asked for. But the drunken abusive mother and the charming dad with so many secrets are not accidental. But don't worry, fantasy always ends in success. This tattoo does not just symbolize Luma. It symbolizes my own journey. How this story helped little me through their struggles and let them fight the real-life monsters without violence.
