There’s a comforting lie people love to tell about nightlife in America- that it’s one shared culture stretched across cities, just different backdrops, same instincts. But anyone who has actually lived on both coasts knows that’s nonsense. Los Angeles and New York City are not variations of the same party. They are two entirely different philosophies of how a night should exist in the first place. As someone who has lived and gone out in both cities for the past 10+ years, the contrast becomes obvious in the smallest, most unglamorous details.
