What happens when you take a hobby that once seemed outlandish and turn it into a poignant narrative about friendship, acceptance, and personal growth? That’s the heart of today’s discussion with Lillian Carrier and Lauren Meyering, the creative minds behind ‘Horsegirls’.
Lillian shares her audition journey and the emotional depth she discovered in Margarita, a character that breaks the mold of typical autistic portrayals in media. Lauren reveals how their collaborative process allowed for richer storytelling, where every detail mattered—from character room decor to interaction nuances.
I’m so overwhelmed I don’t know where to start. This film was born in a small apartment by two young women who did everything they could trying to get this film made (swipe to the last slide as evidence- spoiler we didn’t get into that program nor any others that we applied to for six years following.) this film is a love letter to @thebigmackbreeden@margs012@einfaltmaddie , Sandy, and Jim. This story is inspired by their beautiful family.
Thank you to @vedapierce247@the3sugars for taking a chance on this little film that could and helped us bring it to life. I will never fully be able to express my gratitude.
And finally, @lilliancarrier@gretchen_mol the most incredible Margarita and Sandy. Thank you for pouring your hearts into these roles with such care and grace. I truly will never comprehend how we were lucky enough to have you both. @jerodjhaynes my Coach forever and ever. You know how special you are to me. @matthewschwabspeaks@theiqbaltheba@mrtonyhale and all my horsegirls!! Thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart. The crew. The cast. I can’t say it enough. Maybe once it’s finally hit me and actually feels real I’ll have the words to write a more eloquent post. We’re going to @tribeca BABY!!! LETS RIDE!!! 🐴💛
That’s a wrap on directing my first feature film with a story I created with my best friend six years ago. Here’s to the most amazing memories made with an incredible crew and cast, and here’s to the karaoke wrap party I only partially remember.
PARADOXE by PRADA.
Endlessly grateful to @emmawatson for trusting me to help bring this incredible idea to life. From helping her pitch the original concept to taking over the edit in the final hours, this project is an honor impossible for me to put into words.
From the start of our process, Emma’s vision was clear. The powerhouse team of (MAJORITY!!) women that came together to make this film possible was enough to inspire me for the rest of my life. Em, thank you for letting me cheer you on and create magic with you. Look out world!! Director Watson is HERE. 💛
