We’re excited to welcome Toronto-based Mil-Spec to our roster! They have been crafting a unique, intergenerational hardcore sound since their formation in 2016. Known for blending tuneful melodies with an erudite, allusive style, combining classic straight edge hardcore with influences from D.C. Revolution Summer and British post-punk.

🚨Calling all hardcore fans 🚨Toronto’s DIY kings Mil-Spec are in the building! 👏 Masters of the genre, their bone-chilling snarls and pummeling riffs deliver a cathartic punch that’s equal parts fury and finesse.
Drawing inspiration from the DIY ethos and the emotional depth of bands like the Beatles, Mil-Spec has carved a niche in the hardcore scene with a relentlessly energetic sound. Their 2023 album ‘Marathon’ got fans spin-kicking in the mosh pit to their visceral lyrics and ferocious instrumentals. Keeping in step with the prevalence of experimentation within modern hardcore, they even dabbled in downtempo trance on their track “Belle Époque,” a poetic, gut-wrenching ode to the late Riley Gale of Power Trip.

What a treat we have for you this week in the form of Matt LaForge from the great Canadian hardcore band, Mil-Spec. They released an incredible LP this year entitled Marathon (on @lockinout ) that knocked my socks off and I had to hunt him down (since the band is notoriously off of social media) and send a carrier pigeon to reach him. Fortunately, it worked and we hopped on a call to chat about all things related to the band including but not limited to the greater Southern Ontario hardcore scene, context and the evolution of the band. Dive in and enjoy!
Today we’re happy to announce the release of CICADAS, a comics anthology compiled by Riley Gale.
Riley began working on this project a few years ago. The idea was simple: make a comics collection filled with some of his favorite artists and music friends whose work he supports and sell it for a reasonable price at the Power Trip merch table on tour. He made some contacts and got a batch of artists signed on, but the pandemic forced Riley to put the project on hold. And then, unimaginably, he passed away before its completion. Because Riley had shared his vision for this project on a Lockin’ Out Slack server we all agreed when he passed it would be an awesome gesture to celebrate his life by looking back over all his messages and notes and get this book together and publish it. We were able to get many of the contributors from his list reassembled and ended up with a 120 page book with 14 original comics by 16 different contributors. This has taken us nearly three years to get together and is finally available through Lockin Out Records (link in bio).
