We are over the moon to have our Marine Scouts programme back up and running.
These 6 brilliant students will be part of our team every Saturday for the next year.
We canāt wait to get to know them and champion the next generation of ocean saviours šŖšš“

Meet Jonathan, our āMangrove Manā.šæ
With more years at LOC than we can count, Jonathan is the beating heart of so much of what we do on the ground. He leads our anti-poaching patrols and mangrove monitoring with a quiet dedication that never wavers, and his indigenous knowledge of the plants, fish, and ecosystems of this coastline is truly irreplaceable.
When it comes to understanding this place, really understanding it, Jonathan is our guide.
We are so grateful to have him in our corner, and so proud to call him part of the LOC family.
Hereās to you, Jonathan. š

š Happy 100th birthday, Sir David Attenborough.
For a century, this extraordinary human has done more than almost anyone alive to make the world fall in love with the natural world.
Sir David once said the natural world is the greatest source of excitement. We couldnāt agree more. š¢
Thank you for 70+ years of stories that moved people to care. Weāll keep doing our small part to make sure thereās still a natural world worth talking about.

Fikiri Kiponda came to Watamuās shores as a volunteer. He had a career in accounting waiting for him. Then he held his first sea turtle, and the numbers stopped adding up the way they used to.
He gave it all up. The career path, the certainty, the spreadsheets. Because once youāve looked a turtle in the eye, once youāve felt the weight of something that ancient and that vulnerable, itās hard to walk away.
Now Fikiri works full time as LOCās bycatch coordinator, on the beach, in the community, doing the slow and necessary work of keeping turtles alive off the Kenyan coast.
This is what it looks like when the ocean changes a life.

The numbers are in. Hereās what our teams recorded over the past two months on the water, beaches, and in the rescue centre.
Rehabilitation: 7 turtles admitted,
Bycatch: 106 interactions recorded,
Nests: 8 nests documented along Watamu beach.
Every statistic represents a life, a community member who made the call, a ranger who responded, and a coastline worth protecting.
This work only happens because of the dedication of our monitors, fishing community partners, and supporters around the world.
Thank you for being part of it.

Watamu, you did not disappoint! Completed the Local Ocean Conservation 3km open sea swim and I'm still grinning. So proud to be part of a community that cares about ocean conservation and raising awareness for protected and endangered species. And those recycled finisher medals? Turtle-tastic!
Knowledge protects. š¢
When our team knows the latest protocols, turtles get better care.
When students understand ecosystems, they become the next generation of advocates.
When communities stay informed, they have the tools to protect whatās theirs.
Ongoing learning, at every level, is one of the most powerful conservation tools we have.
We believe education isnāt a one-off event. Itās a constant commitment.
