The National Partnership Agreement on Remote Indigenous Housing - a program established to address critical housing shortages and overcrowding in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities - concluded in 2018. There was no replacement. Since then, overcrowding in many of Queensland’s First Nations communities has worsened. In the years since, First Nations councils and the LGAQ have repeatedly called for urgent investment to address this growing crisis. Despite nearly a decade of sustained advocacy, no funding commitment has been secured. Now, ahead of the Federal Budget, First Nations leaders are once again issuing an urgent call for action.

Karumba features stunning sunsets along the Gulf of Carpentaria - views that attract a steady stream of tourists to this remote community. Protecting and preserving its iconic foreshore is essential. The town has been battling serious coastal erosion threatening this foreshore - which has been coming closer and closer to the town. The erosion has swallowed a street within a generation. Without programs like the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, this would continue. Carpentaria Mayor Jack Bawden is joining the call for the Federal Government to replace this vital program - and keep investing in the infrastructure regional communities rely on.

A bin tax won’t shrink your household’s landfill. What would? Tailored local solutions. Investment in recycling infrastructure. Standards for producers. Right now, ratepayers are handing millions in waste levy payments to the State - and not enough of it is coming back to help you recycle more. 7 in 10 Queenslanders agree. Do you?

“This decision is a serious blow to rebuilding our vital agricultural industry.” North West Queensland is at a critical point in recovery after prolonged disasters — but restocking support has been denied. North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils (NWQROC) Chair, Etheridge Shire Council Mayor, Barry Hughes said: “North West Queensland is in a critical moment of recovery after consecutive and prolonged disasters, and this decision is a serious blow to rebuilding our vital agricultural industry.” Deputy Chair of NWQROC, McKinlay Shire Council Mayor, Janene Fegan said: “This has put the region back by years economically with more than double the roads and fencing that was damaged in 2019." Local leaders say the impacts will be felt across communities, industries and the wider economy. LGAQ President Mayor Matt Burnett said: “The Federal Government cannot walk away from these communities when they need them the most. They need to reverse this decision immediately.” 👉 Read the full story via our website. This is a joint call from the LGAQ, NWQROC, AgForce Queensland and the Queensland Farmers' Federation.

A few years ago at this dog park, small dog breeds were sharing this off-leash space with bigger dogs. 🐕🐾 As pet owners know – that’s not always ideal. Using funds from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, Ipswich City Council constructed this small breed off-leash park to give smaller furry friends a separate area. It’s projects like this that have real impact on the everyday lives of our community – yet the vital program that funded it, the LRCIP, is set to disappear June 30. Ahead of the Federal Budget, councils are sounding the alarm on behalf of their communities. 🚨

The Chinchilla Cultural Centre is a community hub - home to a library, cinema and art gallery. 📖 🎥 🎨 It was delivered with support from the Federal Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program - but that funding is set to end on June 30 unless it’s replaced. With the Federal Budget being handed down tonight, councils are sounding the alarm on behalf of their communities. 🚨
