Introducing Nick Sacco, a tile setter by trade and a dedicated member of BAC Local 1 PA/DE. Nick is an extremely hard worker who takes pride in his craft, attention to detail, and commitment to doing the job right the first time, reflected in the high-quality work he consistently produces. At the training center, Nick leads by example; he is one of the first to volunteer and never hesitates to help beginner apprentices by sharing what he has learned and showing them the proper way to do things. His willingness to support others and pass along his knowledge demonstrates the true spirit of union, brotherhood, and mentorship.
Nick also proudly represented BAC Local 1 PA/DE at the regional apprentice competition in Atlantic City, where he showcased both his skills and professionalism while competing against some of the best apprentices in the Northeast.
When asked what his favorite part of the apprenticeship was, Nick said: ‘Easily, the apprenticeship competition. I got a chance to go head-to-head against guys and girls with similar skill sets from all over. The Northeast regional was awesome. I also learned a lot from all my teachers over the years. They told me everything I need to know to be a successful mechanic in the field.’
Behind every hard hat is a human being.
This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re reminding our members that help, support, and resources are available. Being strong also means knowing when to reach out. 💪

Luie Echevarria is not only a graduating apprentice but also one of our contractors. He works alongside his father and mother at SME Contractors in Delaware, splitting his time between the office, where he assists with preparing bids, and the field, where he applies his skills in brick, stone, and restoration work. Luie is eager to continue developing his craft in both stone and brick and is committed to learning every aspect of the trade. His dedication and talent have already set him apart. He proudly represented BAC Local 1 PA/DE at the regional marble competition.

Apprenticeship week is here, and it’s a great time to recognize the hard work, dedication, and growth of our next generation in our trade. Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting this year’s apprentices who are set to graduate this year. These individuals have put in the hours, sharpened their skills, and shown what it means to represent our craft with pride.
Introducing Chris Bowden, who arrived from Boston in 2024 as an apprentice and quickly made a strong impression with his dedication and work ethic. His skills have steadily improved, and he has been excelling in the trade ever since. Chris, like his fellow apprentices, enjoys working alongside him in the shop. He consistently comes prepared, takes pride in his work, and demonstrates a genuine commitment to learning the craft. Currently working with Torrado Construction, Chris has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the company.
“Being part of Local 1 and going through the apprenticeship has given me a sense of pride, stability, and direction as I continue on. I have gained a high-level education experience on-site while working towards becoming a journeyman. Thanks to Phil Bachetti and Tom Stanley at the training center for the time they have taken to share their knowledge and prepare me for the next generation of bricklayers. I am proud to say Local 1 PA DE made me a bricklayer.”
