Weâre seeing a pattern with Google-linked data center projects: big promises to âinvest in the community,â followed by out-of-area contractors moving in while local skilled trades workers and local businesses get cut out.
We saw it at Project Maize in Michigan City, Indiana. Now the same warning signs are showing up in Sullivan County, Indiana. If Google and its development partners want public trustâand public cooperationâthen the project needs enforceable guarantees: a binding Project Labor Agreement (PLA) and a written local hiring and local contracting plan before more work gets awarded.

Important QSL Strike Announcement
The National Labor Relations Board:

* Found no merit to the ILAâs 8(b)(1)(a) charge against us.
Stay tuned for further updates.

This week, Local 150 bannered at Harborside International Golf Courseâan IIPD-owned property. Erik Varela responded visibly aggressive, threatened a lawsuit, demanded âdocuments,â and fired off numerous questions, seemingly surprised when none were answered.
Meanwhile, for nearly a yearâwhile QSL workers remain on strike and Local 150 members attend IIPD board meetings to ask questionsâthe response from IIPD Board Chair Ivan Solis has been the same: make your point during public commentâno questions.
If IIPDâs line is âpublic commentâno questions,â then hereâs the public comment: workers wonât be silenced. Bannering and peaceful protest are protected rightsânot a provocationâand threatening lawsuits to scare people off the sidewalk is intimidation, plain and simple. Local 150 will keep showing up, and QSL workers will keep fighting, until theyâre heard and respected. #justiceforworkers #whereisdarius #solidarity #workersrights #labor
Freddy Alvarez spoke at last Fridayâs Haymarket Plaque dedication ceremony, honoring the legacy of the workers of the Haymarket Affairâwhat they stood for, what they fought for, and the standard they set that the labor movement still carries forward today.
He spoke about QSL America workers on Chicagoâs South Side, who have been on strike for over 345 days. QSL America/NASCO, a Canadian-owned company with foreign investors, continues to ignore worker safety and accountabilityâat Chicagoâs ports.
We are calling on leaders at the IIPD, and across our city and state, to stand with workers. Ensure their voices are heard, their safety is protected, and that companies operating in this city and state meet the standards we proudly promote. #justiceforworkers #whereisdarius #solidarity #haymarketriot #haymarketaffair
At the April IIPD board meeting, Freddy Alvarez, Business Agent for Local 150, delivered pointed public comment. With QSL bringing all of its employees, Freddy addressed them directlyâlaying out the strength of Local 150, its highly trained membership, and its unwavering commitment to safety and to defending workersâ right to choose their own union.
He didnât hold back in calling out the ILA, asking plainly: where were they five years ago, where were they three years ago? Instead of standing with workers, they chose to align themselves with QSL. Local 150, by contrast, has been clear and consistentâfighting for nearly a year alongside QSL workers on strike. Local 150 is fighting for whatâs right and for the voices of workers to be heard.
Local 150 Strong. #justiceforworkers #whereisdarius #local150 #workersrights #solidarity
