A Summer Staple

Last week we said farewell to Richard Utting, who steps down as Sales & Marketing Director after more than a decade at Loake.
Richard joined Loake in 2012 and has played a key role in shaping the brand and building its presence both in the UK and internationally. Over that time, he has helped define how Loake presents itself today.
He has also been instrumental in developing the team around him, something he reflects on as one of the most rewarding parts of his time here: “For me, it’s always been about the people. Building a team and seeing them grow in confidence, that’s been the most rewarding part.”
He points to the Aldwych toecap Oxford as a standout Loake style, a true classic that continues to define the range. His current favourite, though, is one he’s been trialling from an upcoming collection, one he can’t say too much about just yet!
Looking back, it’s the environment and people that stand out most: “I’ve probably laughed and enjoyed my working environment here more than anywhere else I’ve been. It’s been fun.”

50 Years in British Shoemaking: Cliff “Spyder” Edwards
Cliff Edwards, more commonly known to his friends in the factory as “Spyder”, recently retired from Loake after an incredible 50 years in the factory. Before he left, we sat down with him to find out about his time in the factory, the early days, how he earned his nickname, and any advice he’d give to someone just starting out.
