Grand Rapids friends! I’m finally performing in my own city and on stage by my lonesome for the first time. *Sappy Post Warning* Thanks to old friends and new who have helped make some dreams come true this year. I took a leap on a project I thought I’d never pursue again and without the support of my chosen family I’m sure I’d have lost the confidence to keep it going. I never thought when I started this thing on twitch that it would lead to some of the coolest opportunities in just a few months. I’m having the time of my life creating these experiences and doing my small part at fostering a community that is much larger than myself. I battle with a constant feeling of imposter syndrome and that I might come off as vain when putting this project out there, but I’m constantly reassured by loved ones that I’m doing the right thing and to keep it going. So, after being more inspired than ever, I’m excited to keep leveling up and doing what fulfills me. I encourage others to follow their passions and see where it leads you. You only live once and you’re doing yourself and others a disservice by not sharing that energy with the world. Grateful beyond words for everyone who has made this life so much fun lately. Mikey is one of those people who has quietly shaped the scene and community for decades. I don’t even live in Denver (right now 👀), but I know that the music Mecca wouldn’t be what it is without him and it goes beyond that city. I came to know Mikey through that band I haven’t shut up about for years (yes, Pretty Lights). Mikey has been a part of that project for longer than I think I’ve even known about it. When there was an opportunity to join his weekly event on Twitch, I took it, and without hesitation he supported me to do so. This is the kind of thing you’ll hear 100s of people talk about with him. He is completely selfless and uses his connections to create more for others. So, I am extremely honored to be a part of this event that supports him through a brutal medical diagnosis. I guess I’ll document some of the things from the best summer of my life. Just days after returning from a fantastic Electric Forest, I hopped on a plane to Colorado to attend @prettylights inaugural Yahn Dawn - a specially curated weekend for the PLF. Honestly think it might have been the best weekend ever. I say that about a lot of things but it’s still true. I’ve been cooking for months on coming up with the right words for what this weekend meant to me and I still don’t think I have them but let’s just say a festival molded around my favorite band and community in an absolutely gorgeous setting is something I’ll never forget. I was honored to contribute in a few ways including creating a mix that was played over the Holographic Uplink - a radio station playing 24/7 throughout the festival and online. In addition, I got to DJ on a stage for the first time at the legendary Cervantes with The Chill Train for the Yahn Dawn after party. Really really cool stuff for your boy. Can’t wait to return.
