Disney World, 1983. I missed Mother’s Day so here it go. I remember a couple of things about this trip.
.
1.We went on the Disney cruise that was really just breakfast on a boat and Donald Duck was playing around and acting like he was choking my mom. I got really upset and started hitting him. Everybody was laughing.
.
2. I woke up in the middle of the night at the hotel and tried to drink water out of a pitcher on the nightstand. I spilled it all over myself and had to change my pajamas.
.
3. My mom and dad were newly separated and they were taking this trip as a family to see if they could work things out. We were all together the whole time and I don’t remember any arguing but things were distant and I can remember clocking it. I guess they officially divorced not long after that cause I was only 3 when it happened and I look about that in the photo.
.
Disney World used to be the shit and I’m glad we went and that they tried.
@moodfabrics It’s a holy place, this is my church. At Saturdays service I found this brilliant acid green (faux) ostrich skin fabric and sliced off a large yard. I think I will go back for more. Envisioning a pencil skirt in a denim vintage wranglers pattern I got from @etsy . #fabric #design #silhouette #green #fashion
Had a wonderful, foggy, rainy New York day. Bought some fabric, had a stiff cup of joe and some eggs sunny side up, met up with Anthony and Luis, found refuge at The New Museum, saw an afternoon film - The Christophers at IFC and finally retired with a (few) Cuban Margaritas. #nyny #color #joy

We’re proud to present Black Tomorrow: Art, Design, Imagination, an evening exploring Afrofuturism as one of the most powerful frameworks in design today.
What happens when African and diasporic histories meet speculative thinking, emerging technologies, and radical imagination? We stop asking what’s next and start asking who gets to decide.
Joining us for this conversation:
→ Dario Calmese - artist, design theorist, image-maker
→ Ekene ljeoma — artist, technologist, MIT professor → Sablā Stays — designing spaces that center rest and belonging
→ Jon Key — designer and typographer grounding identity in culture
Introduction and Moderation by AIGA NY Board Members, ana rice, Kiser Barnes, and Anthony Harrison.
Design is world-building. Hope to see you there.
As we are always designing… inspiration can and will come from every surface of our experience. Color, its tone and combinations, will strike you as important considering your specific intention and location. Today I draw from a documentary about a Himalayan Nunnery. It’s good to know that when I’m older and become a marijuana growing nun (in community with my sisters) that I won’t have to take any shorts style wise. Style notes: Add contrast wool socks with Tims. Dye Long John’s in sophisticated hues / layer under plaid skirts. Add prints / stripes to knit accessories.
