Heart full, mind blown, tear ducts emptied 🫨😵💫🥲
Portland took such good care of me on my overnight stay to witness the gorgeous work of the company of LIZARD BOY at Portland Center Stage. So much love, care, and craft went into the tiniest of details (THERE’S GUM UNDER THAT TABLE??) and I was genuinely overwhelmed to see these Lizards spread their wings.
“Another Part of Me” was a highlight for me. Something about the way they served up this moment took me right back to 2013 arranging this song with Kiki and Bill in Seattle Rep’s “phone room.” It reminded me how beautiful it is that these audiences are responding to a musical I made with my best friends so many years ago — that they’re responding to harmonies that once upon a time we just, like, made up. 🥺😩
Happy closing and congrats to PCS, Chip Miller, and the whole team on this jewel box of a production. What a freakin honor.
I feel very privileged to be performing in two productions at Oregon Shakespeare Festival while my pride and joy, the first thing I ever wrote, Lizard Boy enjoys a beautiful run in Portland. This is the dream. 🦒
