It was a fun and FABULOUS sold out Mothers Day drag brunch in Charlotte. Thank you to Buff Faye for creating fun, meaningful, and impactful events that platform so many artists in the community. Also a big thanks to my new “lil friend” Miss Joanie…she hit me real good yall.
And so ends another year at CVCC. Graduation is always special to me because it marks the jump to a new identity for many of our students. The identity of professional, continuing student, or even a personal shift. It continues to be the greatest privilege of my professional life to be a part of these journeys.

Twenty one years ago I graduated from Catawba Valley Community College with my Associates Degree. At the time I still greatly struggled with anxiety and believing in myself educationally and professionally. My teachers at CVCC helped push and inspire me and I went on to finish my bachelors and masters degree at Lenoir Rhyne University. I am now ten years into my full time faculty position with CVCC and tonight I had the privilege of winning the Red Hawk Teaching Excellence award. Getting to share the evening with my best friend Bryce winning the Rookie award and celebrating one of my amazing students just made it all the more special. Staying curious is how we learn from the world and a commitment to that learning is what makes a great teacher.
