The newly launched limited-edition sandals “inspired by the Kolhapuri chappals” is the Italian fashion house Prada’s response after being accused of cultural appropriation last June when it sent models down the Milan runway in sandals that Indian social media was quick to note looked strikingly similar to the handcrafted footwear long associated with Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Neither was there any initial acknowledgement of its origins. Read the review of the new pair, by Pooja Singh (@pooja_see ) on livemint.com/mint-lounge

This is increasingly sounding like the new urban Indian phenomenon. Doctors unpacking pain in viral videos, a productivity and fitness culture that leaves little room for niggling discomfort to fester, and relief often just a click away rather than a trip to the chemist or a physiotherapist. Together, these forces have transformed how urban India seeks pain relief, all the while reshaping our understanding of pain and our relationship with it, write Shephali Bhatt (@shephalibhatt ) and Mahalakshmi Prabhakaran (@bluecollarfashion ) in this week's cover story. Visit livemint.com/mint-lounge to read the entire story and the rest of the edition. Born Mario Joao Carlos do Rosario de Britto a Miranda, but known popularly only as Mario, which is how he signed his works, the artist whose creation adorns the walls of the market is also one whose work symbolises Goa in popular culture. His signature drawings are omnipresent—in bars, hotels, walls, on signs, on souvenirs, on everything that needs to validate its “Goan-ness”, writes Arun Janardhan (@iarunj ) about the late sketch artist, illustrator and cartoonist whose birthday centenary is being celebrated today, May 2. The Indian male shopper is rethinking how he wants to be seen. The mental health market is turning complex psychological support into a consumer product. This detracts from the science of psychotherapy and research-backed techniques, leading to an oversimplified language surrounding mental health. We forget that clients reach out to deal with anticipatory loss, grief, trauma or when they are struggling with a chronic or debilitating health situation, clinical depression, severe anxiety. There are no easy solutions for these concerns. The therapy process requires trust between the practitioner and the client, patience, openness and a desire to explore and work towards change. Confusing it with wellness creates a disservice and an illusion that quick solutions can be served in the name of “therapy”, writes Sonali Gupta (@mentalhealthwithsonali ) Read the column Heart of the Matter on livemint.com/mint-lounge

Lounge's cover story for the week pays a tribute to the inimitable Asha Bhosle who passed away last week. "Asha Bhosle’s body of song is the evolution of desire in Hindi cinema. By giving voice to every kind of fantasy and longing, she liberated us all," writes Uday Bhatia (@udaybhatia84 ) in his piece for the special. Lounge columnist Sandip Roy (@sandip.rc ) writes about how the singer was brave enough to go outside her boundaries to try and discover new worlds. Writer Abhilasha Ojha's (@abhilashaojha ) story looks at how Bhosle’s non-film collaborations, from Kronos Quartet to Ghulam Ali, reveal an artist constantly pushing boundaries.
