Meet Milli 🥹❤️
A few days ago, Shifali found this little soul on the streets… a gentle, sweet senior dog (the vets believe she’s around 13–14), wandering alone, clearly not in good condition. She looked like she had been abandoned.
Without a second thought, Shifali brought her home… fed her, held her, comforted her… and gave her the safety she may not have felt in a very long time 💛
But the more we’re learning about her… the more our hearts are breaking.
Her body tells a story no one should have to live through.
One eye… barely there. No fur left on her body. No teeth. And her belly… I don’t even have the words.
Tumors… so many of them… pushing out of her tiny frame, like her body has been crying for help for years 😭
Some of these tumors are the size of ping pong balls. On a body this small… imagine carrying ten of them.
Every step must hurt. Every sip of water must hurt.
And yet… she still looks at you with so much love.
Shifali has already taken her to the vet for vaccines, treatment for eye, and a full examination. The vet has identified 10 mammary tumors and concerning liver values.
Next steps include an abdominal ultrasound and x-ray to understand the extent of her condition… and possibly multiple surgeries. We don’t even know if her body will be able to handle it all.
What lies ahead - each surgery is estimated to cost around $3000, and every vet visit is approximately $700.
Yesterday, she had her first grooming session in years… but her little heart was so stressed that they had to stop midway, afraid she wouldn’t be able to handle it 💔
She has likely not had the life she deserved. But we want to give her the comfort, care, and dignity she deserves now… in whatever time she has left.
We are raising funds to support her medical care: diagnostics, medications, treatments, and everything she will need moving forward.

We started this program 2.5 years ago… And since then, we’ve shown up EVERY SINGLE MONTH. That’s 27 months. 27 rooms filled with conversations, laughter, questions… and slowly, understanding.
Most of this work happens quietly. Often at our own expense (time, energy, resources)
And because the impact isn’t immediate, there’s no instant gratification, no visible “result” you can point to right away. So, it’s hard to prioritize this over everything else.
But some things are too important to wait for convenience. You don’t find time for them… you make time. Because this matters. And today, I am proud of us for making it this far :)
We introduce new SPD recruits not just to Indian culture every month… We share our stories, we educate, we humanize.
And somewhere along the way… something shifts. They carry more empathy. More awareness.
And yes… we can proudly say, paneer puff patties might just be giving donuts some serious competition now 😌
Today, we had a room full of new recruits who showed up with curiosity, sat with patience, laughed with us, and truly leaned in to understand.
This is how change happens. Not loudly. Not overnight.
But slowly. Consistently. Together ✨💛

Over the last 2 years, this cultural exchange has been incredibly special to us.
Month after month, we walk into SPD’s recruitment center to introduce new badges to the richness and beauty of Indian culture. Introduce them to who an Indian immigrant truly is, our stories, our values, our traditions and in the process, we also listen, learn, and humanize each other.
It’s never been a one way conversation. It’s about connection, understanding, and empathy on both sides.
Today, yet another badge was introduced to our beautiful culture. And every single time, it reminds us why this work matters.

We know the recent news and incidents involving ICE have been deeply unsettling. For many of us, this is the first time we’re genuinely feeling fear for our friends, our families, and our community.
In response to that, we’ve invited officers from SPD to come speak directly to our community. This will be a purely informative session, focused on knowledge, preparedness, and reassurance.
We’ll cover things like:
* What your rights are
* What to do if you ever find yourself in a difficult or frightening situation
* Who to reach out to and which phone numbers to keep handy
* What resources you should have readily available
* How to protect yourself while continuing to live with dignity and confidence
*💯 Come prepared with any questions you might have*
The goal is not to create panic, but to replace fear with information, clarity, and support.
