Dave picked up this light meter through Kickstarter a while back, and it’s become a handy little tool on set.
Basically, it helps us understand the light we’re working with — both how bright it is and what color temperature it is.
Light color is measured in Kelvin.
Lower numbers mean warmer light (think cozy indoor lamps).
Higher numbers mean cooler light (think daylight).
Knowing color temperature helps us match lights, keep colors looking natural, and make sure what the camera sees actually looks the way it should.
It’s a small piece of gear… but it makes a big difference. 🎬

You won’t find anything else on the market that does what it can do within its price range and seriously fun to use on set.
It keeps getting better with every firmware update — new features, faster, more accuracy, and I’m impressed every time they drop one.

Last week at BSC Expo in London we tested many exhibited fixtures - using the new LIT OS 0.9 beta3.
Most of the lights flicker with a large frequency - between 30 kHz and 110 kHz. This is not a big risk when filming at lower FPS, but can become a problem at higher FPS.
We have have since then already improved the Flicker mode in LIT DUO 1 and increased the Flicker metering range up to 125 kHz - without loosing the accuracy. This will be included in the upcoming LIT OS 0.9.
There are more than 20 other improvements and new features in this new LIT OS update.
