Like all things Litquake, a striving to gather people in the warm embrace of books and story is at the heart of two of our most beloved programs: Kidquake and Elder Project. Over the last 20 years, Kidquake has inspired tens of thousands of young readers, mostly low-income students of color, by bringing them into close contact with authors and illustrators who look just like them. With Elder Project, we bring free writing and storytelling workshops to a half-dozen senior centers across the Bay Area, building much-needed community in this often overlooked population. Inspiring people of all ages to embrace reading and writing is what we do. Help us build on those feelings of belonging in 2026 by donating at the link in bio or on our website. 💗 As 5th grade teacher Ms. Saidawi found out, students thrive after Kidquake: “When we returned to school that day, students raced to discover which books we received…I had to create a ‘reading order’ that nearly all 27 of my students’ names were on. Students were even reading at recess and asked for more time to read during the school day!” As Elder Project students often find, this community is a place of deep connection to creativity and to each other during critical times: “I’m not at all sure I would have survived the pandemic years without this program and these classes and my fellow writers and teachers. My gratitude is boundless.” As a fan of the written word, we know you can relate—donate today! 💗 Link in bio or on our website. (PS: Thanks to your past support, we’ve slowly but surely expanded these programs. Kidquake has quadrupled in size in five years and Elder Project is now reaching seniors at seven sites across Oakland and San Francisco!)
