When stone meets code, a new language is born.
From ancient stone to digital intelligence — the story of how marble carving is evolving through robotics, vision, and code.
What we do at Litix, Robotor and Torart is not about replacing hands with machines. It’s about expanding the language of sculpture, preserving centuries of knowledge, and giving form to ideas that were once impossible to realize.
In the heart of Carrara, the birthplace of classical sculpture, we’re shaping a new era — where tradition meets automation and where innovation is not an enemy of the past, but its natural evolution.

@nytimes In a cavernous warehouse north of New York City, a 16-foot robot outfitted with a cutting tool etched intricate grooves into a faceless marble head atop an alien-like torso. Water sprayed into the air as an image created with artificial intelligence entered the physical world.
Alexander Reben, an MIT-trained technologist, helped bring it to life as part of a stint as OpenAI’s first artist in residence. “I got a closer view of how innovation happens within an A.I. company, and got a better idea of why it’s important to push the edges and try new things,” Reben said.
There are concerns among artists that their work is being used to train A.I. systems without permission, payment or credit, or that A.I. could alter the very nature of creativity. Reben said he understood, but saw enough room for different kinds of art, embracing A.I. as a collaborator on his own works.

@60minutes Bill Whitaker asks, “If you have a robot doing 99% of the work, where’s the artistry?”
“In the idea,” says Giacomo Massari, CEO and co-founder of Robotor, a company that makes sculpting robots. “How you program the machine is a work of art.”
Proud to see our robots featured in The New York Times today!
The New York Times documented the innovative project by Alexander Reben, OpenAI’s first artist-in-residence. During his residency, Reben used artificial intelligence tools to generate images, which were then transformed into 3D models using advanced technology. These models were sculpted in Italian marble by our Robotor One-L robot, which reproduced each intricate detail with remarkable precision.
The article describes how Reben experimented with the cutting-edge tool Sora, capable of creating videos from simple text prompts. With the help of Nvidia, these digital images were transformed into three-dimensional objects. The final sculpture—a bust in white marble veined with gray and black—perfectly exemplifies what can be achieved by merging art and technology.
Reben stated that he sees artificial intelligence not as a threat, but as a collaborator, and that this experience allowed him to gain a closer look at the innovation dynamics within a tech company like OpenAI. The article also highlights the debate surrounding AI’s role in the art world, showcasing both the concerns and the enthusiasm of artists when faced with these new possibilities.
