Visiting the Cooper Hewitt Museum was the perfect place to be on this cold winter day. I’ve loved the work of @christopherpaynephoto after discovering his photography on Instagram several years ago. I was able to attend a talk he did with one of his collaborators Kathy Ryan formally of the NYTMAG a few weeks ago. I really understood Chris’ vision better after this talk and appreciated his respect for each worker represented in these photographs. My favorite pictures and the video included in the show was the Steinway factory in Queens. My mother, a 1948 graduate of The Julliard School of Music loved her Steinway piano. I felt a deep sense of appreciation for those workers in each photograph knowing how much we rely on their work. The first snow of the season in Central Park is magical. I'm drawn to the serene beauty of the trees especially when tourists, bicycles and pedestrians are everywhere. One of the most important people working with horses is the barn manager. I photographed Laura as she fed, cleaned stalls and escorted horses to pasture. Her job is not glamorous but is very important for the well being of these beautiful animals.
The work of a farrier is an essential and important part of maintaining the mobility and well-being of horses through expert hoof care. I recently had the chance to photograph a farrier and his apprentice working on the North Fork of Long Island.
