Opened my first bottle of 2023 Liquid Farm White Hill Chardonnay tonight (I bought a case when it was released by
@divinesweden back in October). It’s still just a baby and will evolve like hell in the next 5-10 years. But mahgawd,
@liquidfarm always delivers!
Right now, this bottle has a lot of stone fruit, almonds, grilled lemon, nectar, minerals, and a soft kiss of oak – with a long and wonderful finish. 13% alcohol. In time, it will become something deeper and more sensual, and I feel lucky to have enough bottles to follow it through its journey.
I still remember getting my first bottle of LF. I knew about them thanks to
@zvonko and other giants of the Swedish wine world, but it was impossible to find a bottle for a peasant like me back then, just getting into the world of fine wine. But here I was, at Selfridges in London, back in 2015.
@vanessaronja and I had just checked in at our hotel, and this were our first stop before lunch. The department store’s wine floor was almost completely empty, except I could hear the voice of another Swede. But my eyes were drawn to bottles way above my price range; saying hello to another Swede just felt like a distraction. And when I finally saw something I recognized, I grabbed it! It was a 2014 White Hill Chardonnay, and I could afford it (but it did hurt my wallet a bit back then).
At the register, I bumped into the other Swede. It was Arsenal footballer Freddie Ljungberg. who was buying a bottle of tequila. We said ”hi” in that awkward way Swedes says hello to each other when abroad.
Nevermind. The wine was just as good as I hoped it would be. And to this day, I can’t see a release from
@liquidfarm without picking it up. We even visited them in Los Olivos back in 2024, and I long to return.
Don’t really understand how this beautiful wine’s still available to order at Systembolaget. It should have been sold out months ago. If you want to try it, the number to search for is 9334901. Right now, 14 bottles are available online, another 70-80 on shelves in bigger stores in Stockholm, Bromma, Sickla, Malmö, and Göteborg. Grab as many as you can. It beats plenty of white Burgundies priced much higher.
