In “The Genie’s Door,” Verse 1 is all about the rush of dating — that early excitement and connection as things start to unfold. The Chorus dives into those little doubts that creep in, making you wonder if you should hold onto someone or explore other potential love interests. Then Verse 2 hits with a harsh reality check — sometimes you end up with no one at all. We wanted to reflect that contrast visually — so in the clip, the “protagonist” shares moments with different partners (like snowboarding together) in Verse 1, then repeats those same moments alone in Verse 2. This is one of 4 of those verse snapshots. These 2 scenes were particularly tricky and fun to film as we had to do some quick maths and recon to figure out what chairs to be on so that @shane_massey_ and @hannahisasalmon would be passing me coming the opposite direction in the right spot at the right time. With our Bluetooth connection going, feeling like walkie talkies we somewhat pulled it off. Needless to say I got some funny looks downloading the chair with no snow gear on and a guitar in my hands. This is the chorus into the outro and one of my favourite parts of the song, largely due to the combined vocals of @bonniekellymusic @lilimarcovich and additionally in the outro @maibregrenfell We organised a show at @mosdesertclubhouse with mates @wet___season and Bonnie, and I knew I had to get her vocals on a track. It worked perfectly for this song with a haunting and chilling deliverance. Then I went over to Lili’s place in Cooly one morning because I wanted to hear how a second vocal on top would sound and it just so happened her housemate Maibre was hanging out as well and was thankfully convinced to add her voice to the track, laying down the powerhouse vocals in that outro with the 3 combined beautifully! Some goofy behind the scenes footage of the video we did for the upcoming single ‘The Genie’s Door’. It has a very home video/high school art project vibe shot on a dad cam by @hannahisasalmon and edited by me. Thanks to @shane_massey_ and @elizabethayazi for being our Guinea pigs and running around in the snow. It was a big silly laugh to shoot and I love it. The sound of the music was heavily inspired by music I was listening to at the time which included Canadian Icons Mac Demarco and Men I Trust so it felt very fitting to have a Canadian winter theme for the song. Can’t wait to release the song next week. It’s soft and sappy and heart wrenching all together. Big list of collaborators coming next week too.

The Genie’s Door 🧞🚪 out in 2 weeks on the 17/10/25 Here’s the cover art for the single release. The background was crafted and inspired from the Canadian winter landscape that I’ve found myself surrounded by over the past couple years and the place where we shot the video for the upcoming release (more details on that later). The landscape gives a haunting and melancholic feel that really resonates with the song and the themes within. The girl was inspired by an illustration done by friend and housemate @hannahisasalmon over winter. With permission I went about illustrating the girl on procreate and detailing it further to incorporate it into the surrounding landscape. There’s some stills from the video and rough illustration progress in the photos above. The Genie’s Door is an emotionally charged song about desire, choices and bittersweet consequences. It explores themes of longing, regret and mystical allure. Be careful what you wish for.

After a very long hibernation in the Canadian winter, I am reemerging with a couple of songs to round off the year. These songs have been brewing and simmering for a mighty long time and they are just about ready. The first is one that you may be familiar with if you were one of the 7 people at some our shows. This video was from a show we played at The Northern in Byron and it was the very first time we’d played the song live. It has undergone complete surgery since then with some major facelifts. This song was a mammoth collaboration between recording, producing, album art, video etc and I’ll be detailing those people over the next few weeks as I release it. Very excited to have this one out. It might be one of my favourite songs lyrically and production wise. The song is called ‘The Genie’s Door’ and will be out on all platforms in 3 weeks
