We here at Groove Trackers get mildly annoyed when told: “last night was a movie.” It’s like, “no, it was five dudes playing poker with Red Zone on in the background and YOU ARE SO F***ING BASIC TREVOR!”
But Liquid J’s GT Mix? It’s a movie. Or more accurately, a “film.”
Not surprising: Juan balances his time mixing tracks with mixing media, his more-is-more visual aesthetic gracing flyers for parties across New York and up and down Florida’s I-75 corridor. Tonight’s set, while similarly expansive, narrows the aperture and crosses the pond to capture the best of the UK’s Houses. Not Commons and Lords, mind you, but Acid, Garage, Breakbeat, Dubstep — even the dreaded House we call “Tech.” J’s mix redeems that last subgenre and presents the others in full Cinemascope.
So grab some Maltesers from the lobby and settle in! This film’s not crap, no need to slash the seats.
