HOUSE LUPE— Gadigal and Wangal land/Leichhardt Once an inward-looking cottage plagued by its bursting footprint, House Lupe is today composed around simple moments for contemplation. The home has been designed to frame uncomplicated views to street-side and neighbouring planting while maintaining necessary inner-city privacy. The carefully placed openings introduce an abundance of natural light, shadow play, and ventilation to the space, without exposing the interior to the baking sun. The allure of this project would be unknown to passers-by, met by a modest frontage that remains largely unchanged. STUDIO ELROY— Gayamaygal land/Manly Crafted from the existing basement of a heritage building, Studio Elroy attests to the possibility of inspired living on a small scale. Once a 26m2 services closet, LINTEL’s clients sought a self-contained dwelling that accommodated a bed and home office, kitchen and living spaces, a cellar and a bathroom. Punctuated by ribbed battens, brass detailing and natural stone, a red historically associated with fire and brimstone finds a certain sincerity and resounding peace in this project. Our appreciation for the willingness of Elroy’s clients to explore this dramatic opportunity cannot be overstated. HOUSE BEAN— Bidjigal and Gadigal land/Clovelly Designed for a family who are passionate about great interiors, the Clovelly project was not just about updating living areas, but about elevating the everyday experience of being at home. A driveway easement flanks the building’s side, initially complicating its primary elevation. Brick screens were employed to unify its facade, balancing access to northern light with privacy all the while. Our latest project has been shortlisted for the 2026 Dulux Colour Awards in the Residential Interior category. The design of House Gretchen embraces the eclectic tastes and masterful knowledge of colour and pattern shared by its inhabitants. The home provides a unique place of refuge that seeks to nourish their creative spirits while fulfilling everyday needs with a balance of playfulness and sophistication. Enchanted by a line of Squash Orange tapware selected for two basins, the clients invited us to double down on boldly pigmented specifications throughout the home. Through collaboration and tactful sampling, a creamy shade of orange proved the perfect colour to emblazon a tight selection of surfaces, harnessing the warmth and energy of the glazed ceramic referent wothout becoming boastful or frivolous en masse. Each day, the paint reveals itself anew as changing light heightens junctions of overlapping colour, animating surrounding materials. Bright and leafy aspects to the yard and internal garden bookend the residents’ experiences of living, cooking, and dining. Outside, a modest veranda spotted with planting sets one bedroom back from the footpath, while a neat brick fence and bifold garage door parrot neighbouring vernaculars in the rear lane.
