ᴏғғᴇsᴛɪᴠᴀʟ 𝟸𝟶𝟸𝟼 ᴀᴛ ᴍᴇᴛᴀʀᴀɢᴇ - ᴏᴘᴇɴɪɴɢ ɴɪɢʜᴛ A pronounced taste for music, rhythms, and samples. A desire to engage with text, writing, and the obsession with words. Something repeats itself, like a series of ricochets triangulating between the three hypnotic artists 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐠𝐡𝐚𝐫, 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐚 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐡𝐝𝐢 𝐌𝐨𝐣𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐝. 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨 | installation This project emerged from questions that were still bothering me after solo performance 𝘈𝘤𝘵, 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘶𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘥, which is about my experience navigating bureaucratic systems as an immigrant. I felt that the journey wasn’t over, I needed to follow this unfinished thread, moving from the personal into a collective systemic condition. I became even more interested in what bureaucratic mechanisms such as waiting, language, delay do to a body, psychic and behaviour, and how a system can keep certain bodies permanently in process while remaining economically indispensable. 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨 developed into an installation and was further shaped during the residency at Rez Gauche. On the final day, visitors could enter, wait, interact, and move through the work, shifting from observation towards an individual experience. In this journey, I carried fragments of stories that live between confinement and resistance. And I found myself thinking of Miriam Makeba whose voice carried freedom even when her body was exiled, whose song was born out of struggle, and whose hope survived prisons and borders. Her song “Little Bird” reminded me of how fragility can also be strength and how the body, even in a cell, can still sing of freedom. Deep gratitude to Jarosław Fret, Monika Wachowicz and Mara Opris for this journey. And now I feel like sharing a little bit of that journey, although it is impossible to transmit here the silent, intimate, fragile and raw feelings I experienced while tracing the echoes of women’s bodies marked by war. Guided by Jarosław’s vision, we each had our own canvas while searching for our woman, the one who endured, who disappeared, who had to make difficult choices yet still breathes through us. The meeting was somewhere between theatre, performance art, tragedy. However, it was not about one form or another, but about a shared space of surviving, of remembering, of losing, of inhabiting the pain and reclaiming dignity. • 𝗭𝗔𝗥 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 • One of the most transformative, inspiring and challenging experiences I’ve had, it has moved me both artistically and personally. A journey and intersection of cultural heritage, physical theatre, polyphonic singing, deep listening, voice work, observing yourself, creating space for others, and learning about Teatr ZAR’s unique language. Being there was really special for me, it connected me to some of my ancestry, to my Polish great-grandmother and Georgian grandfather. And learning Georgian traditional songs from the incredible Vakhtang Pilpani (founder of RIHO choir and guardian of this vocal heritage) made it feel like something came full circle. Deeply emotional, deeply grounding. Connection with tradition, voice, body, and with an inspiring group of artists from around the world. We’ve created a space where we could explore, experiment, share, and grow freely.
