PROJECT PREVIEW
The first in our series of Right to Remain film projects features
@TallPaulHipHop , Ojibwe & Oneida MC from Minneapolis, MN, where ICE maintains an increased presence after devastating families and communities in recent months.
Ikogaan Mikwam (Ojibwe for “ICE out”) is a powerful and enlightening audio-visual collaboration between Tall Paul,
@womostudio , and
@linkoftruth_ (Arikara of MHA Nation). The animated music video tells the story of an early 20’s Native male character who ends up on the receiving end of ICE profiling, brutality, and arrest, which are all too familiar for many in Native communities in the U.S.
In the chorus, Tall Paul passionately raps: “ikogaan mikwam, chinga la migra, ICE out of Mni Sota, we don’t rock with them people;” Mni Sota being the Dakota word for “Minnesota.”
The project provides listeners and viewers with know-your-rights info, and reminds us of our sovereignty and power as Native peoples.
We remain here, and we will stay informed and vigilant to ensure our sovereign and constitutional rights are honored and protected.
Watch and listen to the full video for “Ikogaan Mikwam” here when it drops tomorrow, Monday, April 27th!
