Aboriginal cultural education for ASC staff is one of the priorities of the ASC RAP. This commitment is seen through regular workshops for graduates and general staff participation in classrooms environments. The ASC cultural education program has now been running for over 24 months. Workshop evaluations are showing there is profound impact for individuals who are learning something they never knew or experiences. ASC will be the beneficiary of cultural education. We at Linking Futures are proud of ASC strong commitment to bridge the knowledge and awareness gap of cultural diversity and safety and its application in the workplace.

Our Facilitating Team at Linking Futures want to give thanks to the SALHN Health practitioners who participates in our Cultural Immersion Workshops and Judith Lovegrove Executive Director, Aboriginal Health. The sessions we have conducted so far have not only helped the participants build their knowledge and understanding of ATSI culture and history but also their relationships with their colleagues and patients. Hearing feedback like “The workshop are great and I highly recommend you to attend” brings our facilitators joy knowing that sharing history and their own life experiences during the sessions with everyone they meet in SALHN impacts them in positive ways #culturalhidtory #cultrualknowledge Southern Adelaide Local Health Network - SALHN

February 13 each year marks the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations, who suffered trauma because of past government policies of forced child removal. The term ‘The Stolen Generation’, referring to the thousands of children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent forcibly removed from their families by the government between 1909 and 1969. On 13 February 2008 Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made a formal apology to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly to the Stolen Generations whose lives had been blighted by past government policies of forced child removal and assimilation. The journey to National Apology began with the Bringing Them Home report – the findings of an inquiry instigated by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission in 1995. Through hearing the resilient stories of Stolen Generations survivors there is now a willingness for Australians to join in on the healing journey. To be part of solutions into the future. This is the spirit of the anniversary.
