There is a certain kind of attention that abstraction demands—one that is slow, reflective, and deeply attuned to the act of making. In the practices of Anushree Rabadia and Maitreyi Desai, line and form become sites of this attention.
Rooted in everyday encounters with nature, their works distil experience into gesture, texture, and rhythm. Whether through ink on paper or tactile relief surfaces, both artists explore how something as minimal as a line can carry movement, memory, and feeling—inviting a quieter, more sustained way of seeing.
Working through line, surface, and light, Maitreyi Desai and Anushree Rabadia approach abstraction as a process of distillation. Their practices are grounded in the ordinary—natural forms, fleeting moments, and quiet observations.
While one traces fluid, intuitive lines on paper, the other builds tactile compositions that shift with light and shadow. Together, their works reveal abstraction not as distance from reality, but as a way of feeling closer to it.

Gallery Art Motif presents ‘Space Making: Making Space’, a group exhibition curated by Mumbai-based interior architect and exhibition designer Kunal Shah.
An inquiry into how space operates across physical, social, and spiritual dimensions, the exhibition brings together a diverse constellation of artists, architects, and designers whose practices explore the ways in which space is conceived, constructed, inhabited, and reimagined.
Participating artists and studios include: RMA Architects, Maitreyi Desai, Stem Design, Pooja Irania, Araish Jaipur, Indrajit Khambe, Chiaki Maki, Percy Pithawala, Tilak Samarawickrema, and Shalina S Vichitra.
