I wanted to, but I never asked for a pic for two reasons: 1) he probably gets it all the time and I think when he’s home in Hawaiʻi, maybe he just wants to be a local boy, NOT Aquaman or Kaʻiana or Lobo, but just part of his family, and 2) we were there to work for those who needed help. So I told myself, das ok…someday the stars will align.

Not many people know this about me but I cut my teeth on rock and metal. 🤘🏽And some punk. Teen years, I listened to that more than Hawaiian, more than reggae. (Sshh. No judge.) So when I tell you that Mike Hayes (lead vox/lead shred), and Kenny Dale Borill (drums) are HAMMAHS, in my humble POV, it’s true. Throw in one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Kirk Hammett of Metallica, and solid bass lines from J and you’ve got an unforgettable experience!

I went to TJ Maxx for the first time in my life (not kidding…for real) and I thought the shoe aisles were hilarious 😂 They had signs and designated areas for every woman’s size, even the half sizes: 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5. Then they got to 10 and it’s like they just gave up 😂🤣😂
Perhaps at that point, you shop in the men’s section and hope you can find something cute??

Some time ago, as the Kāneʻohe 2nd ward Relief Society president (women’s group in our church), I somehow convinced three camera-shy wāhine to do this with me. It was a simple gift of a hula noho (sitting hula) to celebrate this one special day, for anyone, any age, any gender. You get the tutorial first with kumu Mālia Mataele (she teaches kula kaiapuni elementary…can tell, yeah? 😄) then the full hula noho.
Easy on the feet and a gentle upper body workout 💪🏽😏
