On Saturday May 30th, Carnivero will be hosting our Central Texas neighbor, Limestone Tortoise Nursery, based out of Seguin, Texas.
A little about the nursery and their owner, James:
“We’re a small-scale grower located in Seguin, Texas, specializing in hard-to-find, uncommon, and rare Texas natives and tropicals. After 10 years working in a retail garden center, I was fortunate enough to meet a lot of great Texas native growers who introduced many of the staples into the industry. As many of them have aged or since passed on—and with the overwhelming rapid growth our state is facing—many of our rare plant species are at risk of being wiped out without more people growing them and planting them. We felt the need to cultivate, and hopefully introduce, some of our amazing species this state has into the Texas horticultural trade. Along with natives, we also grow a wide array of Hoyas and tropical plants that aren’t commonly offered in local nurseries. We are appointment-based primarily, and looking at wholesale options in the future.”
In addition to hosting this pop-up, our carnivorous plant nursery storefront will be open its usual hours, plus we will be offering greenhouse tours at 11, 12:30, and 2.
Come join us at Carnivero to shop two premier Texas nurseries in one place!

Lots of blooms going off on my Clemtis pitcheri. I have two localities I’ve collected, one with larger and lighter purple blooms and larger foliage from Travis county and one with darker, smaller blooms and foliage from the Davis mountains. I have both localities ready to get out of 4in pots and into gallons or the ground! With this current rain now’s a good time to plant. #clematispitcheri #nativeplantsoftexas #plantnative #smalltowngrower #localbusinessowner #plantsmakepeoplehappy®️
The strange blooms of Hoya insularis. I imagine the arrangement of inward facing blooms probably encourages better pollination by small flying insects, they don’t have to fly too far to another bloom? It’s a super unique Hoya with its long thing, and glossy grass like leaves. A super easy one too, it can tolerate a range of temperatures and doesn’t mind drying out a bit between waterings. I have 4in pots coming on soon if you don’t have this unique species in your collection you definitely need to add it! #hoya #hoyainsularis #hoyasofthephilippines #uniqueplants #smalltowngrower #nottoohotforhouseplants
Lots of Vanilla planifolia rooted and ready. A easy orchid to start with, just needs warm temps and bright filtered light, and moist media. Now you’re not going to be producing any vanilla extract anytime soon but they do make a great rambling or climbing houseplant or terrarium addition. Thanks for looking, stay hydrated everyone! #orchidaceae #vanillaorchid #varigatedplants #smallbusinessowner #smalltowngrower
The “Texas” Jose Buono, what many people started to call the plant that my mentor grew for the last 40+ years. Today marks a year without her, I’ll forever be grateful for all the years of friendship and support she gave me along with inheriting her collection of Hoyas and philodendrons, including this plant! Definitely different than the standard Jose Buono, in having a much thicker leaf, a sinus that’s always open and of course the bright yellow variegation that hardly ever browns! Come get a prop from the original plants that started it all! Appointment only for now. #philodendronjosebuono #texasjosebuono #localgrowers #smalltownbusinessowner #seguintexas
